Wooden door installation is hanging timber and timber-faced leaves: paint-grade flush, veneered, and solid or engineered doors for rooms and some villa entrances. Book it when you want a timber leaf in a lining, or when an older timber door has split, cupped, or dropped.
Timber moves. A door between a cold air-conditioned bedroom and a humid bathroom will not stay the size it was in the workshop. The hang allows for that. A wooden door is the wrong product for a rated stair unless the whole set is a certified fire door, which is a different page.
Flush, veneer and solid leaves
Paint-grade flush doors are the usual apartment and villa internal door. Veneer needs a prefinished edge and careful trimming so the face is not sanded through. Solid and engineered leaves are heavier, so the lining and the hinge screws have to hold them. Three hinges are normal once the leaf is tall or solid.
Site-finished doors are hung, then painted or lacquered when that is in the scope. Paint that bridges the hinge and the frame is a common reason a new door binds on day one. The finish stops short of the working gaps.
Paint-grade and veneer
Paint-grade can be finished on site. Veneer is chosen for the face you see, and it is not a door you plane heavily on the show edge.
Movement between rooms
AC-dry rooms and humid bathrooms need a gap that still latches in both seasons, not a door shaved until it rattles.
Included, and the limits of a timber leaf
Included is the timber leaf in the agreed finish, hinges, latch and a swing test. A new timber lining is included only when the old one cannot hold the weight. Not included is a fire rating, a weatherproof villa entrance in an exposed coastal location unless the specification says so, or structural steel in the opening. External coastal doors are usually aluminium or UPVC. Timber entrance doors are for sheltered villa openings and need a finish that can live outside.
- Flush, veneered and solid or engineered internal doors
- Hinges and latch sized to the leaf
- Sheltered villa entrance doors when the specification is timber
- Not a certified fire door unless the set is a tested timber fire door
- Not the default balcony door on a seafront tower
Questions about this door
It took moisture from a bathroom, a balcony door left open, or a house that was shut up in summer without AC. If it still latches and the bind is slight, adjustment comes first. If the face is cupped or the veneer has split, the leaf is replaced rather than planed thin.
Paint-grade MDF or primed flush is for internal rooms you will paint. Engineered and veneered leaves stay flatter than a single solid plank in AC. Solid hardwood is a specific villa choice and needs a frame that can hold it. The scope names which one, because the hinge pattern changes with the weight.
Not as the usual UAE balcony door. Sun and humidity destroy a paint film and the bottom edge. Balcony openings are aluminium or UPVC unless a specialist sheltered detail is already designed. Internal faces of timber are a different storey.
We can hang a leaf in the same timber species or a paint finish close to the other doors. An invisible match to a faded ten-year-old veneer is not something to promise. The scope says “same species” or “paint grade”, not a perfect blend.
Finished floors should be down, or we agree to leave the bottom for a second visit. Walls beside the lining should be done enough that we are not hanging a door into wet plaster. Clear the room so the leaf can lie flat. In a tower, the lift booking needs to be the same day as the delivery.
Interior installation is about the room and the lining, whatever the material. This page is about timber as a material: movement, veneer, weight and where timber is the wrong exposure. Many interior doors are wooden. Fire, UPVC, aluminium and steel security doors are not.
