Glass door installation is a tempered or laminated glass leaf in a frame, or a frameless glass door in a floor and head channel, for offices, villas and shop-front style rooms inside a property. Book it when you want a glass partition door, or when an existing glass door has a damaged pivot, a cracked panel, or a channel that no longer holds the glass.
Balcony sliders that are aluminium with a glass pane are aluminium sliding doors, not frameless glass. A fire door with a small vision panel is a fire doorset. This page is the glass door itself.
Framed glass and frameless channel doors
Framed glass doors sit in aluminium or timber and are the simpler hang. Frameless doors need a floor channel or a pivot that the finished floor can take, and a head fixing into structure. The glass has to be toughened. Ordinary annealed glass is not used for a door.
Wet rooms and poolsides need glass and channels that can live with water. A frameless door is not sealed like a fire door, and it will not be offered as one. Large panes in a villa stair need the thickness and the hardware sized to the height, not a shower-door pivot reused on a full-height leaf.
Toughened glass
Door glass is tempered or laminated as specified. A scratched annealed panel is not recut into a door.
Channel, pivot, structure
The floor and the head have to hold the hardware. A channel in a thin screed that crumbles will drop the door.
Included, and the glass we will not hang
Included is the glass door, the frame or channel agreed, and the pivot or hinges, with a swing that does not hit the closer wall. Not included is a fire-rated glazed doorset, a balcony aluminium slider, structural glass fins for a facade, or cutting a new opening in concrete. If the glass is only the pane inside a UPVC or aluminium balcony door, that pane is part of those door pages.
- Framed glass doors in aluminium or timber
- Frameless doors where the floor and head can take the channel
- Toughened or laminated glass named in the scope
- Not a fire door and not a balcony slider
- Not a structural glass facade
Questions about this door
A cracked toughened pane is replaced. It cannot be patched. The pivot and the channel are reused if they are undamaged and still square. If the crack started because the channel pinched the glass, the channel is reset before the new pane goes in, or the new pane will crack the same way.
Framed is the calmer choice when the floor is already finished and you do not want to cut a channel. Frameless needs depth in the floor and a solid head. Neither is a privacy door in the way a timber bedroom door is. Glass doors borrow light and do not block sound well.
Size, thickness, framed or frameless, hardware, and whether the floor has to be cut for a channel. A single office door in an existing aluminium frame is a smaller job than a full-height frameless villa door with a floor spring.
A shower screen is not a passage door. We fit glass doors that people walk through, with a proper swing and a stop. If the opening is a shower, say so, because the hinge and the seal are different and it may be outside this visit.
A frosted film can be included when it is in the scope, so a full-height door is visible. We do not print tenant branding or a shop logo unless the artwork is supplied and agreed. The glass specification comes first.
Only as a certified glazed fire door, with glass, bead and frame from that test. A frameless toughened door is not a fire exit door. Use the fire door page if the drawing calls for a rating.
